Sweating Under The Heat Dome? Here’s What To Do When The Weather’s Too Hot To Handle

Posted in Travel Tips

Since the beginning of the year, temperatures have been predicted to be brutal during the 2016 summer months. Whether you’re in Europe experiencing a heat wave or in the States sweltering under the Heat Dome, there’s no denying this summer is a hot one!

Now that we’re literally in the heat of the moment that is Summer 2016, here are 3 tips on what to do to cool down when the temperatures are up.

1) Learn creative ways to save energy. While cranking up the AC or turning on a bunch of fans might sound like a solution to sweltering summer temperatures, all of that excess power usage is only going to heat things up. In addition, if you and your neighbors have the same idea and everyone’s devices are all running on high, it could cause an outage. A great idea is to head to a local cafe or library where you can indulge in a collective cooling effect instead.

Prefer to stay home? Using efficient lighting or even keeping the lights off when the sun is out will help keep the temperatures down. You can try turning down your refrigerator and your water heater  thermostats. When it comes to running the dishwasher or doing laundry, we recommend doing these chores in the cool of the evening as opposed to the high heat of the day.

2) Stay hydrated.  H20 is not only vital to your general health and happiness, staying hydrated is one of the best things you can do for yourself while experiencing the hot summer sun. Along with saving energy, it’s important to use an eco-friendly water bottle and keep one on you at all times! Collapsable water bottles are an awesome tool when it comes to form, function and hydration, and you can also choose one that features a glass inset inside a silicon sleeve. These bottles are generally BPA, lead, phthalate, and PVC free.

3) Go to a hotel! Obviously much of the discomfort that comes from sizzling summer temperatures can be avoided by simply staying inside. Where you choose to stay however, can make all the difference! Many hotel lobbies offer free wifi, and of course, the AC systems are generally cranked up to chilled perfection. Why not bring your laptop and lounge in a hotel lobby and get some work done? You could order a mojito from the hotel bar or sip some fruit infused water from the complimentary dispenser. Some hotels will even accommodate your desire to take a swim! There’s really no better place to escape the heat than at a great hotel.

We hope that helps you chill out this summer!
